In a recent referendum, Parisians have voted overwhelmingly in favor of transforming 500 more streets into pedestrian zones, with nearly 66% supporting the initiative. This decision aligns with the city’s ongoing efforts to reduce car usage, enhance air quality, and create more green spaces.
Paris town hall data shows car traffic in the city has more than halved since the Socialists took power in the capital at the turn of the century.
The plan includes the removal of 10,000 parking spots and will involve consultations with residents to determine which streets will be pedestrianized.
This move builds upon previous measures, such as the 2023 ban on e-scooters and increased parking fees for large SUVs.
The city’s leadership remains committed to further reducing car traffic and promoting sustainable urban living.
